garon park swimming & diving centre
Client: Southend on Sea Borough Council
Saville Jones was appointed in 2007 to prepare designs for a new, high quality, international diving and swimming centre at Garon Park in Southend. The new facilities being designed as an extension to the existing indoor tennis centre.
The new centre includes an international diving pool with boards for synchonised diving and a full range of boards up to 10m; a 25m, 8-lane competition pool; a leisure pool; changing village; a ‘dry-dive’ training hall; spectator seating for 400; and alterations to the existing centre. This facility offers some of the best diving facilities in the world, particularly the dry dive.
The design expresses externally, the different spaces by reflecting the internal heights required for each of the main activity areas. A sustainable approach was adopted to the design, including renewable energy options.
The project was completed in the Autumn of 2010.
