hartlepool science STEM hub
The provision of a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Hub in Hartlepool is seen as part of Hartlepool’s regeneration. Our work involved evaluating four possible sites and then preparing designs for a Coastal Communities Fund application.
Having evaluated the four sites, it was determined that reclaimed land at Seaton Carew would be the most suitable and a detailed design was undertaken.
The new Hub responds to it’s surrounding area, including the nearby Art Deco bus station; the promenade; beach; an offshore wind farm and a power station to the south, helping to anchor the hub in the real world of science, mathematics and industry.
The new facilities will include a reception area; cafe; office; three exhibition spaces; theatre and class room. The top floor is to be an external observation deck.
The scheme would be an exemplar example of sustainability including its own wind turbine ; solar thermal technology; ground source heat pumps and waste recycling scheme- all part of the educative process that the centre wishes to promote.
