les quennevais swimming & sports centre
Client: The States of Jersey
The project comprised a £4.5m extension to an existing sports hall to provide a major new sports and swimming complex, including a 25m, 8-lane pool, a teaching pool, and leisure water area.
The scheme also incorporates a new reception, bar, café with 80 cover restaurant, dance studio, health and fitness suite and squash courts.
The design incorporates modern and traditional materials in an exciting way, to produce an international standard facility. Its environmentally conscious design provides for high-level clerestory glazing to reduce the need for artificial lighting, which also reduces the risk of glare on the water surface.
The complex was the centrepiece for Jersey to host the 1996 Island Games.
