9 warwick road worthing

Our Client’s brief was to return this Grade II Listed property to its original appearance by installing new windows, constructing a new balcony and undertaking a number of internal alterations in order to provide a home for modern living within the context of an old property.

When our client purchased this property, it was not in good repair. There was damp in the basement and the bedrooms, at eaves level, where the parapet gutters were leaking. Windows had been replaced over the years with a variety of styles, some timber lintels were rotten, the front balcony had been removed and the original railings to the basement light well at the front of the property had been replaced with cast iron Victorian railings. Where some of the older windows were still in place, they were in poor condition.

The works to the property were carried out sympathetically, with the balcony being reconstructed, based on dimensions and details taken from one of the neighbouring houses; and the windows were designed to the original Georgian pattern. Internally, the proportions of the rooms were maintained whilst adapting to our clients requirements. The front steps were removed and reconstructed and finished with black and white tiles.

The works to this property have not only restored this house to its original appearance, but have also improved the whole terrace; restoring the rhythm of the terrace, where it had been interrupted by the missing balcony and inappropriate windows.
